No Ped Xings here

I got up from quick lunch at a Starbucks with a friend to head back to work one afternoon.

"Where's your car?" he asked as he picks up his Gucci shades and pulled out his Mont Blanc keyring.

"At the regency car park" I got up, adjusted myself and picked up my hand bag.

"Laish wagafteeha b3eeed min ihneey?" He asked, busy fiddling with his super cool new phone.

"Laish? That's where my parking spot is..."

"O Shlone yeetay?" we walked towards the door.

"Shino shlone? Meshait"

"You walked?!?!?!" He stops in his tracks, raises his eyebrows and mockingly drops his mouth open.

"Ee akeed" I stopped as well and knitted my eyebrows together. "Why should I drive for 15 minutes when I could walk for 5?"

He shook his head and put on his blinging shades.

"Ma7ad yamshi ihneey terra, 7u6i hai el shai fi balech"

Well Harumph to you too.

haha crap.. I actually don't mind walking, as long as there's a pavement!

why do we lack pavements in bahrain? is it because no one walks? or no one walks because there are no pavements?

chicken, eggs..?

yes, yes, you gotta love this irony in bahrain. just go to Bahrain Mall for the finest example of this. Just stop by the door, and try to fix your eye on a specific car; you will see it go round and round for 5 or 10 minutes JUST to get a parking spot close to the entrance, even though you can see that there is, in fact, a parking spot a little further away that might take them, what, a minute of walking? but nope, they prefer to drive round and round and round...

I would say this whole finding a close parking spot situation would probably account for 90% of our vehicle emissions in Bahrain

Don't you listen to them people, sweetheart. You keep on walking if you want to because walking is cooler than driving. But be careful not to get sunstroke in the process! In fact, I might join you on one of your sojourns and hold an umbrella over your head just to make sure of it..

Wow, that is really sad. We can't walk becoz its uncool.
Can you believe that a few years ago, walking for exercise was considered "3aib" and people gawked at you if you did that!

I guess its the lack of pavements that leads to the lack of walking!!!

Reminded me of when I first got back after spending a few years outside--
there's the whole population all dressed up and being prisky around seef, and yours truly walks in w/her ipod and athletic gear, sticking our like a sore thumb ;) Not sure exactly when I stopped doing that

ahahahh! i have no idea why i wasnt able to get any of ur most recent posts.. but this one is a gem!! :) maybe ur friend should consider working for my firm.. and having 3 odd meetings in 3 different places... let's say one in the souq, one in diplomatic.. and one... umm.. exhibition road... (i'm giving an easy example) would he walk or drive around an hour before his meeting hoping to get a spot only to realize it's easier to just get a ticket? my firm's nice enough to provide shuttle buses to and from the car park building..but it's easier to just walk!

and lulu.. i still dress like that when goin to malls.. who gives a shit?!?!
